EX INTERNATIO-NAL, Henry Nwosu has predicted that the Eagles would not qualify for the quarter-final of the World Cup.
Nigeria on their two occasions in the world cup had exited after the second round but the Nigeria football Association has set a semi-final target for Swede coach, Lars Lagerback.
“I don’t see these team making it to the quarter finalsâ€, Nwosu who thrilled Nigerians with his ‘bend it like Beckham crosses’ and acrobatic displays in his days said.
“No, we should forget about making it to the quarter final but I want to see a decent outing for the team under Lagerback. They have very short time to prepare. Remember that they have not played any friendly under the coach. How can you then be dreaming of winning the world Cup or getting to the semi final. It is ridiculous.
But we can still retain Lagerback if he guides the team to do well and not get to the quarter final stage. If we do well, I will support Nigeria to give him a long term contractâ€, the former coach of Heartland FC said.
Asked about the dreaded Argentine team with free-scoring World Footballer, Lionel Messi, Nwosu said that the Argentines would not be too much of a problem to the Eagles.
“My fear is not on Argentina but on the under-dogs Greece and Korea. We know everything about Argentina and we played with them at the Beijing Olympics and the World Youth Championship in Holland.
We saw how Jose Mourinho executed his plan against Messi during the Champions League semi final between Inter Milan and Barcelona. There was no space for Messi to turn and twistâ€, Nwosu who coaches Union Bank FC of Lagos said.
