KADUNA — NATIONAL Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, NUTGTWN, yesterday said the elevations of Namadi Sambo as Vice President and Patrick Yakowa as governor was a sign of the growing strength of Nigeria’s democracy and called on the duo to join hands with President Goodluck Jonathan to urgently put Nigeria on top of the development ladder
In statement by its General Secretary and a Vice-President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Isa Aremu, the union said Sambo and Yakowa were products of functioning democratic institutions— the Presidency and governorship — at the federal and the state levels respectively and that all we needed to do was to nurture these democratic institutions which had made unexpected transitions possible peacefully.
According the statement, “both Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Governor Patrick Yakowa are tested democratic actors in their own right with remarkable achievements to show in their carriers in public offices.
“We bear witness to the passionate commitment of these two statesmen to the development of Kaduna State and indeed Nigeria as a whole. We acknowledge the commendable effort of Arc. Namadi Sambo as Kaduna State Governor towards the resuscitation of ailing industries and attraction of new investments in the state.
“The newly elevated Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa was also the chairman of the sub-committee for the revival of the textile industry in Kaduna State.
“In all our dealings with both the Vice President and the Governor, we have always known them to be statesmen with eyes on development, development and development, not sectarian agenda.”
