Irked by the rise in the rate of road accidents in the country, the Association ofÂ Surgeons of Nigeria, ASON, has calledÂ for the establishment ofÂ more trauma centres in order to improve access to trauma care in the country.
National President of ASON, Dr. OkonÂ Bassey made the call at the 6th Annual Congress of ASON, held at National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu. At the congress were surgeons from across the country, representatives of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Red Cross and Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC.
He said that the management of traumaÂ victims, especially atÂ the pre-hospital stage has beenÂ observed to be poor and not well co-ordinated by the various agencies.
