Members of the House of Representatives led by their Speaker, Dimeji Bankole have described the death of President Umaru Musa Yarâ€™Adua as a painful loss of a great patriot and lover of peace.
The helmsman of the Green Chamber in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Communications, Otunba Kayode Odunaro Thursday, sent condolences to the family of the late President, as he described the death of the late â€˜servant-leaderâ€™ as sad and shocking.
According to the Speaker, â€œThe President was peace-loving and a patriotic national leader whose approach to governance was marked by adherence to the rule of law, due process and peaceful resolution of knotty national issuesâ€.
Mr. Bankole said some of the landmarks the late President would be reminded byÂ Â â€œinclude the 7-Point Agenda, the Amnesty Programme for the Niger Delta militants that saw thousands of militants laying down their arms, the ongoing Electoral Reforms and the cordial relation he maintained with the legislative arm of government in the interest of the nationâ€, as he prayed to â€œAllah for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late president and the fortitude for the family and the nation to bear the irreparable loss.
The Chief Whip of the House, Emeka Ihedioha in his reaction to the death of the President, said it is â€œIt is painful, we will miss him. He was a respecter of the Rule of law; he was a respecter of the Principle of the Separation of Powers. During his time we enjoyed a very cordial relationship and a mutual respect between the arms of government.
His era strengthened the independence of the Legislature and other arrns of government as and there was mutual respect for the role of the three arms of government, the judiciary, the Legislature and the Executive. I commiserate with his family members; his friends and the entire nation for the great loss, and may his gentle soul, be granted Al-Janah Firdaus
In a separate press statement, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Rep. Uche Ekwunife described the passing of President Yarâ€™adua as a loss of a sincere and committed leader of the Country.
The Former Governorship candidate on the platform of the Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) said the Country was diminished in its march to true greatness by the death of the late Yarâ€™Adua.
â€œNigeria has lost a great man who loved Nigeria and Nigerians passionately and the first President who was sincere and Committed in giving our Country the best leadership. A man of peace, integrity, decency, and orderliness. His death has once again reminded us that whatever we are and position attained its only death that will put a stop to it. May his Soul rest in peaceâ€, she stated.
Another member of the House, Rep. Leo Ogor, described as painful and tragic, the circumstances that led to the death of the late leader.
â€œIt is very sad that we are losing him at this time. This is a man who meant well from day one, but the conspiracy of the politics of self-preservation and disregard for the people of this Country, by people around him contributed to a large extent to claim his great life. I pray fervently for the divine repose of his peaceful and patriotic soulâ€, he said
