LEADERS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State have resolved the crisis threatening to tear the party apart over the continued leadership of the State Chairman, Dr Tayo Dairo and other State Executive members.
Consequently, members under the name “Concerned and committed members of party†have rescinded their decision to suspend the state chairman, Dr. Dairo and the entire executive members.
Notable leaders that waded into the crisis and resolved it include the immediate past Governor, Dr Olusegun Agagu, Senator Bode Olajumoke, Senator Gbenga Ogunniya and Chief Tayo Alasoadura.
A statement by the spokesman of the group, Mr. Dele Teniola said the group had agreed with the leaders of the party on the need to allow the Dairo-led executive to continue in office.
Teniola denied the speculation that the group was being sponsored by rival political parties in the state, particularly the state government.
The group had last month announced the sack of the Dr Dairo-led executive, saying that they could not win elections in the state.
Teniola in the statement said “the earlier decision to change the executive of the party was to bring sanity into the PDP, particularly the central senatorial district and to reposition it for better performance in the next general election.
According to him: “It is necessary to correct the rumour going round and call the attention of our teeming masses, card carrying members and supporters of PDP within and outside the state that these are figments of the imagination of this crop of political neophytes.
“We re-affirm our previous stand that there is neither faction nor division within the party in the state. What happened was an internal affair of the party, showcasing the beauty of democracy.”
Teniola appreciated all the genuine and concerned leaders and elders within the party for wading into the crisis and nipping it in the bud.
He, however, said “until expected results are achieved, the group will continue to press further.
“We are law abiding members of Ondo State PDP. For now we agreed with the leaders to resolve the matter and allow the PDP Exco led by Dr. Omotayo Dairo to stand and correct the abnormalities of the party in Ondo State.”
