The Ondo State Football AgencyÂ has started her academy projectÂ with the U-17 category for boys. This is sequel to the completion of recruitment of coaches, zonal coordinators, secretaries and other technical personnel in all the six zonal centers in the state.
The selectionÂ of genuine U-17 players for the ODSFA Academy commenced on Monday, May 10Â at the Akure sports stadium .
According to a press release from the office of the Executive DirectorÂ (Management) MrÂ Mike Idoko,Â the Akure zoneÂ hosted youths from Akure North, Akure South, and Ifedore local govt areas.Â The exerciseÂ moved to the Ondo Township Stadium on TuesdayÂ for youths in Idanre, Ondo West, Ondo East and Ile-Oluji local govt areas, from where it proceeded on Wednesday to Odigbo Township stadium for youths in Ore, Irele and Odigbo local govt areas.
This exercise continues today at Okitipupa for the Ikale and Ilaje youths and other youthsÂ within the Okitipupa zonal local govt areas, Owo township stadium for youths in Akoko East, Ose and Owo local govt areas.
The screening exercise will be rounded off at the Ikare stadium for youths in Ikare, Akoko North East, North West & South West . According to the Executive Director, the boys are to come to the screening venue with their birth certificate, last school result and two passport photographs and a letter indincating parental consent.
These measures, he said, are to curb age cheat that has become a global challenge in world football, more especially in third world countries.
In the same vein the Executive Chairman of the agency chief Olusegun Adagunodo (AKA Santana) said the academy is to bring out the real values associated with such ventures siting economic gains to family of the youths through the development of their talent.
He also enlisted the state as benefactor whose youths bring in monetary gains from transfers in the mode of exporting their talent to foreign lands. Lastly, he said the game of football itself tends to attract economic valuesÂ as the youths must have learnt all the rudiments to develop their skill to attract all the economic gains.
The exercise will be conducted by the ArgentineÂ technical Director (academy) of the agency Mr Roldofo Anthonio Zapata and his London based Nigeria agent Dapo Kujore Olowu with the assistance of the newly recruited zonal coaches and officials.
