The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control(NAFDAC) atÂ Okokomaiko , Lagos made seizures of fake drugs and unregistered products worth N260million being smuggled through Seme Border.
Paul Orhil,Director General of NAFDAC said in Lagos recently that the peddlers wanted to take advantage of the Easter Holiday to unleash the illicit products on Nigerians.
â€œNAFDAC Officers in conjunctionÂ with the Officers of the Nigerian Customs Service Intercepted seven trailers loads of assorted unregistered products worth N200 million,â€ He said. He said that two of the seven trailers used in conveyingÂ the products currentl detained at NAFDACÂ Office, Oshodi haveÂ the following registration numbers:XK689LSD MAN26.291 and XJ931 MAN 26.291. The NAFDAC boss said that the interception was made possible due intelligence network
Of the Agency via a tip_off from patriotic Nigerians. â€œNAFDAC Officials were tipped â€“off by patriotic Nigerians and my men swung into action to carry out the arrest,â€ he said.
The NAFDAC boss said that in another operation at Okokomaiko during theÂ Â Easter time, NAFDAC Enforcement Officers intercepted a 3×20 feet container load of suspected fakeÂ drugs worth N60 million.
Some of the items contained in the seizures include drugs like fulcin, FerrousÂ Surlphide tablets andÂ Tanzor tablets.
Others are Loprade , chloraphenicol ,Amatin, Amala and sulphide capsules.
Recently , Seme Area Command of NAFDAC under the control of Stanley Atabor uncovered the routes being used by fake drugs peddlers into the country.
