ABUJA— The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Consumer Protection Council, CPC and other agencies responsible for safeguarding food consumption in the country have been urged to intensify efforts in ensuring that only quality and healthy farm products are sold in market places.
The Deputy Speaker of the Children Parliament, Aliyaro Ishaq gave this charge at the media round table discussion by the National Children’s Parliament on school feeding policy in Nigeria.
According to him, agencies should always check the nutritional value of products by the food manufacturing companies in the country in order to ensure good health of the people, especially children.
His words, “Government agencies such as CPC and NAFDAC should as a matter of importance intensify efforts aimed at ensuring the security of farm produce and also check the nutritional value of products by the food manufacturing companies in Nigeria.
“There should be an inclusion of ‘nutritional education’ in the already existing school curriculum while efforts should be made by non-governmental organisations to establish nutrition clubs in schools in order to promote healthy living amongst the children.”
