Bitter over the N18 million fine imposed on the country for sudden switch in accommodation arrangement for the Eagles for next month’s Fifa World Cup finals in South Africa, Minister and Chairman National Sports Com-mission, Ibrahim Isa Bio, has decided to take the Nigeria Football Association and the matter before the Federal Executive Council meeting today.
Bio, still angry over the whooping N18m fine for the shoddy hotel arrangement caused by the NFA, said he was waiting for the FEC decision before calling a ‘world’ press conference tomorrow (Thursday) to tell the world the type of deals the football house has been indulged in.
NFA had earlier booked for New Hampshire hotel as camp site for the Eagles. But Bio found it substandard and outrightly rejected it in place of Richards Bay which is two hours drive from Durban, where Eagles will base.
Incidentally, Richards Bay was also originally chosen as camp by the federation as another option. Bio rejected Hampshire for lacking security. But Nigeria was fined for the last minute change.
Tony Ohaeri, the Chief Press secretary at the NSC confirmed, yesterday, that the minister was bent on tabling the shoddy hotel arrangement for the Eagles that attracted a fine of N18 million to the Federal Executive Council today.
“Though the minister is new at the National Sports Commission, we have not seen him angry like he was when he was explaining how NFA people went and hired a very substandard hotel for the players of the Eagles.
If such a place was allowed to be used by the players, one wonders how the players would have concentrated for the matchesâ€, said Tony Ohaeri who repeated what the minister said. Ohaeri said that the minister would reveal a lot during his press briefing on Saturday.
