MTN has recorded another first by unveiling the biggest ball in the world. The ball, 36ft in diameter, was revealed to the public by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, and Social Development, Lagos State, Prince Adeniji Adele who represented the State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola at an elaborate event held at the Lagos Polo Club Grounds, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on Tuesday, May 18, 2010.
The ball bears the Guinness Book of Record certification as the biggest ball in the world.The unveiling ceremony, according to the telecommunications company, is one of the activities aimed at creating awareness and excitement ahead of the FIFA 2010 World Cup which will be hosted on the African continent for the first time and which also has MTN as the global sponsor.
At the event, Mr Bola Akingbade, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Nigeria, said the worldâ€™s biggest ball initiative was borne out of the companyâ€™s desire to take the excitement towards FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa to another level and further create awareness about the football fiesta.
â€œAll over the world, excitement about football is a common phenomenon. It bonds and fosters friendship. MTN, in its tradition of adding value to lives, keyed into this idea to give delight to millions of soccer fans across the country.
Already, the excitement is high but MTN decided to take the excitement to a fever-pitch level because Nigerians are very passionate about the gameâ€, he said.
