Minister laments none implementation of National Tourism Master Plan

ABUJA-Minister of   Tourism,   Culture and National Orientation, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed has lamented the none implementation of National Tourism Master Plan after two years when it was officially launched.

Mohammad stated this while playing host to the delegates of Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN)  in Abuja, he emphasis the importance their roles in tourism development in Nigeria.

He noted that the master plan has suffered a lot of setbacks in an effort by the ministry to implement the plan. He said the ministry recently asked for assistance from World Tourism Organization especially as it recognizes the importance of the private sector in tourism development.

According to him, “It is quite unfortunate that a lot time has been taken before a significant stride is made”.
“The  ministry is on course in resuscitating the presidential committee on tourism development which is the highest decision making body in the sector. There has been a lots of scam in the sector , so we are working on policies that would guide all stakeholders in the sector.”

Stressing, “We are aware of the recent happenings in the industry; there would be reforms to ensure that only genuine people get on board in the tourism industry. As an umbrella body of the hospitality and tourism industry, you should be at the forefront of the proliferation of the industry.

“Given the need to develop the tourism industry, there is need to provide enabling environment for the operators, fund should be generated by the operators which will be plunged back into the sector. All hands must be on decks if we must make any headway in this income generating industry”.

Mohammad also commended them for their ability to register various associations.Earlier, President of FTAN, Mr. Samuel Olu Alabi called for representation of FTAN representatives on some government and for the resuscitation of the presidential committee on Tourism PCT.

The association also requested to be made part of the organizing team in the various Tourism related events such as Abuja carnival, NAFEST, World Tourism day amongst others.
