BENIN—A medical doctor with the Central Hospital Benin, Dr. Osaro Osifo, was on Monday night kidnapped by unknown gunmen at his residence on Nekpen-Nekpen Street in the state capital.
The abduction of the physician, who is a dentist, yesterday led to withdrawal of services at the Dentistry Department of the hospital by his colleagues, who are protesting his kidnap. It was learnt that the kidnappers earlier demanded for N10m ransom and had reduced it to N5m as at press time.
Following the latest kidnapping of the medical doctor, members of the Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, are warming up for a strike action if the doctor is not released by today.
State Chairman of NMA, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, who confirmed the kidnapping, said the family members are looking for the ransom fee as the kidnappers have threatened to kill their victim if the ransom was not paid.
“We will stop out-patient services and only attend to patients already admitted and emergency cases until our colleague is released alive unconditionally.â€
