Intensive lobby over who becomes the next Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly has commenced, even as the embattled Speaker, Martin Okonta, has dismissed news report that he has resigned as speaker, saying “there is no iota of truth in such report.â€
Investigation by Vanguard revealed that Okonta’s colleagues have started to lobby over the plum office. The office of the Speaker is zoned to Delta North Senatorial District.
Vanguard gathered that some members from that zone are either on their own started lobbying or interest groups are propping them up.
Okonta had Tuesday informed his colleagues that he was staying away for a while to pursue the appeal he lodged at the Supreme Court challenging the recent verdict of the Court of Appeal that removed him and his doctorate programme in Law.
