Ikeja Golf Club in Lagos is a beehive of events and the recent support thrown in from a member of the federal house of representative, Honourable Tam Brisibe, speaks more of the tone of activities at the golf facility.
The regular Sunday kitty, a ritual that has been on-going for more than fifteen years, now boosts of huge attendance and sometimes attracting top societal figures.
Niyi Latinwo, Chairman of the Kitty group believes the development speaks volume of huge measure of confidence and the renewed patronage that the club has been enjoying in recent time.
According to him; â€œ ForÂ golfers in Lagos there is no place to be in outside of Ikeja on Sunday afternoon, things are just getting better and I believe with the wave of big personalties that joins us at those times, things can only get betterâ€
Former Ikoyi Club Captain, Soji Awogbade, Shola Giwa, Yemi Ogunbiyi were among players that teed last Sunday when Hon. Brisibe played host at the Sunday Kitty.
Captain of the Club, Alhaji Awa Ibhareem, has apart from working to keep the club facilities in the best shape has also put in process machinery to revive some of the key events that the clubs has not hosted in recent times, including the famed Industrial Cup.
The 18n holes Sunday Kitty was won by Jibola Awoseyi (who tied with Brisibe) shooting 71, two over par at the event, while Ebere
Onyeyiri finished two shots behind them to pick the runner-up prize. In another development, the ICMA stableford matchplay has heightened up at the club as members has until May 31 to slug out the first round ties with their contemporaries, in a 36-match duel that would be narrowed to two players after six matches.
