Hip Hop Awards: Wande Coal is Nigeria’s best

Mo’ Hits Records’ artiste, Wande Coal has emerged Nigeria’s hip hop biggest star for 2010 as he won 5 awards at the Hip Hop World Awards held yesterday in Lagos.

Wande Coal won 5 awards out of 7nominations he had in different categories.

He won ‘the Artiste of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ (Mushin ’2′Mo Hits’) ‘Best  R ‘N’ B Album of the Year’, ‘Best Pop Single’ (You Bad) and ‘Revelation of the Year ‘Awards.

Despite not winning the ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Vocal Performance(Male)’ categories, Wande still reamined the brightest music star of the night at the 5-Star awards event, produced by Smooth productions and sponsored by MTN.

Wande Coal, real name, Wande Ojosipe was born in October 1985. He started singing at a tender age in the church teenage choir. However he was more into dancing until he met Don Jazzy and was signed onto his Mo’Hits label in 2006.

His first single ‘Ololufe’  became lovers’ anthem and was regarded as one of  the best love song  to be  written by a Nigerian by hip hop followers.

Other awards winners  include: Song of the Year, Yori Yori by Bracket, Producer of the Year, Don Jazzy, Best Vocal Performance (Male) No Stars by Darey; Best Vocal Performance(Female) Keeper of My Dreams, Lara George; Best Street Hop, Free Madness, Terry G, Best Collabo, Kokoroko by Kefee featuring Timaya; Best Recording, Heaven Please by Timi Dakolo; Best R & B Singel, Strong Ting by Banky W, among other awards.

Mode 9 also won the award for the ‘Lyricist on the Roll of the Year’  while late  Da GRin won the ‘Best Rap Album of the Year’ awards.

The Hip Hop World  Awards is for music excellence within the period under review; – for work released by artistes from December 2008 to November 2009.
