The Athletics Federation of Nigeria golden league moves to Owerri, Imo state next weekend and officials are expecting the athletes to rake up heart warming performances in view of the 2010 African Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
According to AFN president, Solomon Ogba the introduction of the golden league would only be justified with the athletes recording good performance that can be built upon to fetch medals at the continental competition billed for Nairobi, Kenya in July and the Commonwealth Games slated for New Delhi, India in October.
Ogba submitted that he was thrilled by some of the performances recorded so far in the concluded legs of the golden league, especially the 10.13 seconds run made by Ogho-oghene Egwero in the men’s 100m during the Lagos leg of the golden league.
“I am happy with that performance and it justifies our struggle to ensure that we have a competition running for the athletes locally.
“We expect that the athletes will make more improvement in their performances in the remaining two legs,†said the former Delta State commissioner for sports.
