Elders forum rejects Edo One-Man-One-Vote rally

By Peter Duru
MAKURDI — A Group, Edo State Elders Consultative Forum, ESECF, has dissociated itself from what it described as Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s rally, called One Man One Vote, which it said was actually intended to usher former military ruler, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, back to the Presidency.

According to a statement issued in Makurdi by the forum’s Chairman, Engr. Uyi Edo-Osagie and Secretary, Madam Philomena Momodu, the group queried the decision of the Edo State Governor to invest tax payers’ monies to organise a rally which “was intended to project the presidential ambition of his political godfather”.

According to the group, “why will he appropriate Edo tax payers’ money into an IBB project that he nicknamed One-Man-One-Vote? What is the connection between Adams Oshiomhole and IBB?”

They regretted that though the Edo State Governor kept harping on the need to dislodge godfatherism in Nigerian politics, his romance with the former military President was a clear contradiction to his presupposed inclination.

“Nigerians now know where he got the confidence he exudes whenever he attacks elders under the guise of fighting ‘godfatherism?  If this confidence comes from Minna, who therefore is guilty of godfatherism?” the group asked.

They also questioned the moral integrity of the convener of the rally especially with the alleged mass brazen rigging of re-runs in Akoko-Edo and Estako by the Oshiomhole-led Action Congress in Edo State.

Alleges Soyinka trap

The ESECF congratulated Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, for not falling into the trap allegedly set by Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole to hoodwink him, along with others, into endorsing IBB for the 2011 Presidency.

The group insisted that the rally has finally confirmed the rumour that the Edo State Governor was eying a vice-presidential tie with IBB in the 2011 presidential election against the wishes of the people of the state and the South-South zone in general.

The group, however, declared their support for Acting President Goodluck Jonathan saying, “even as we wish Oshiomhole good luck, we lend our full support, as citizens of the South-South region, to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan whom God has ‘imposed’ on us for good.”
