Don’t write off Eagles, Okocha warns

FORMER Eagles mercurial skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has advised Nigerians not to write off the chances of the team in the World Cup. Many Nigerians have been skeptical about the chances of the team that is grouped alongside South American powerhouse, Argentina, Korea and Greece.

“The World Cup is a place of surprises and luck. Some of the bookmaker’s favourites are the ones that kiss the tournament bye early. It takes luck, most times for the teams to forge ahead”, Okocha said noting that there was no short cut to hardwork.

“Team work is important. And once the Eagles can train together, remain focused and disciplined, anything is possible in football”, Okocha who would be in South Africa on the delegation of the Presidential Task Force, PTF, said.

“One thing that the Eagles are known for is their unpredictable nature. At a time when many Nigerians don’t reckon with them, that is the time they spring surprises. I have a feeling that these bunch of Eagles with Lars Lagerback will go far in the tournament. Yes, even to the semi-final stage”, Okocha said with all seriousness.

He also counseled on the players to see the pressure on them by Nigerians as a measure of love. “Nigerians love football and they deserve a good outing from the players. The huge interest of Nigerians propelled me to put in my best when I was playing. If the players unite as one family, I think that Nigeria will get up to the semi final”, Okocha said.
