UGHELLI—CHAIRPERSON of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Nkem Okuofu has promised to sanitise the commission. She also warned staff against absenteeism, lateness to work and truancy.
Okuofu who gave the warning while addressing the commission’s workers at Otu-Jeremi, headquarters of Ughelli South Local Government Area, when she paid a familiarisation visit to the council, said the Commission will soon embark on mass transfer of council workers as part of efforts to improve efficiency and productivity in the councils.
She said senior and junior staff who had served three and five years respectively in their present stations, would be affected by the mass transfer, adding that the transfer was aimed at adding experience to the workers. She disclosed that the Commission had commenced the training of council staff across the state, stressing that every officer irrespective of cadre would participate in at least two workshops and seminars yearly.
Okuofu urged council chairmen to pay staff statutory allowances spread through 12 months along side their salaries, so as to lessen the burden of bulk payment on the councils’ finance.
She advised the workers to support and work in harmony with council chairmen to make their administration successful. Chairman of the council, Mr Dennis Djoma in his remark, commended the Commission’s chairperson in all she was doing to bring sanity and discipline to the councils.
