ABUJA — AS Nigeria yesterday marked this year’s Children’s Day, the United Nations Children Education Fund, UNICEF, has lauded the efforts of the Nigerian government on legislation and policies that protect children, advising that the day should be seen as a situation analysis and a time for drawing a fresh road map on how to proceed with regard to the realisation of the rights of the children.
UNICEF Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Suomi Sakai who disclosed, acknowledged that Nigeria is making important strides in legislation and policies to protect children as 21 states have fully enacted Child Rights Laws and another three have passed them but are awaiting their governor.s assent. Sakai, however, lamented that implementation is still lagging behind.
