MAKURDI — The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Benue State Chapter has pledged to work in partnership with the state government to address rising cases of social vices and wanton destruction of public property in the state.
Benue State Chairman of CAN, Archbishop Yimam Orkwar made this declaration in Makurdi while playing host to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Gabriel Suswam on Public Utilities, Mr. Gadafi Asemanya.
He regretted that members of the public had resorted to the wanton destruction of public infrastructure through reckless driving and other acts of carelessness, stressing that government has lost huge sums due to these unwholesome acts.
The cleric noted that Benue State CAN would join forces with the state government in sensitizing the people on the need to protect government property since the resources used in putting the infrastructure in place belonged to the people.
He said: “We will pass the massage to the five CAN Blocks in the state to take the message to our members farther and deeper across the state.â€
Orkwar said the church would also educate its member on the need to apprehend anyone seen damaging public infrastructure in order to hand them over to law enforcement agents.
