KANO State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has indicated his interest to run for the presidency on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP.
Gov. Shekarau made his intention known to newsmen in Maiduguri after the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of ANPP at the Government House, Maiduguri.
He said: “though, I have not made a formal declaration of my intention to contest for the presidency come 2011, I am assuring you that I am prepared to present myself to my party, ANPP, whenever the party sets out the guidelines and time-table for the primaries.â€
The governor argued that in democracy there was bound to be one complain or the other but there is always a room to come together and resolve issues amicably.
He added that the party had set up a convention committee to conduct ward, local government, state and national congresses and convention from now till the first week of July.
On the issue of who succeeds him, Shekarau declared that it was in response to several agitations by the people of the state, which according it is a betrayal if he refuses to respond to their call and show them his choice.
He said this did stop anybody from contesting and is lelf for the delegate to choice who they wants, stressing that he see nothing bad in having primaries as he had primary with his former deputy in 2006.
The governor stated that power belongs to God and He gives it to which he wants at any time he wants, so anybody is free to vie for any elective position.
