2011: OBJ meets guber aspirant, declines comment

By Kolade Larewaju
FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo Monday, met with a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2011 governorship aspirant, Otunba Olajide Awosedo at his Abeokuta, Hilltop residence.

Details of the meeting with the aspirant from Odogbolu who only declared his aspiration, which lasted for about 40 minutes was however, not made known.

But Vanguard gathered that apart from Awosedo’s aspiration, the former President and his guest discussed political development in the state, especially as pertaining to the 2011 elections.

Obasanjo declined comments but Awosedo disclosed that he called to discuss political issues with the former President who is also the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, BOT, saying “yes it is just a courtesy call, like a son visiting his father.

“Which ever way you look at it, he is the greatest Yoruba man living. He has been President of this country, as a Military man and as a civilian. We don’t have any body beyond him so we must continue to accord him respect and that is why I am here.”

Awosedo who is an Ijebu said he was against zoning of the governorship seat to a particular zone because zoning was alien to democracy as it does not allow the best candidate to emerge.

“We are very literate in Ogun State, very enlightened so we don’t have to be disenfranchised and that is important. We need to choose the right person that will bring the state back to the right path. “Ogun State is going through a lot of challenges now and we need to salvage it.”
