2011: Monarch harps on security of lives, properties

The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Sideso Abe1, has charged security agents to carry out their responsibilities of protecting lives and properties in the Niger Delta during the 2011 general elections with all man-like fortitude.

The monarch gave the charge during the visit of the new Commanding Officer in charge of Effurun Army Barracks, Lt. Colonel Mohammed Jega to his temporary palace at Jakpa road, Effurun on Tuesday.

The Ovie, in his brief remark, noted that the relationship between his people and security agencies have been very cordial.

He also disclosed that he had been working round the clock with security agents to ensure that the prevailing peace in his domain was sustained and improved upon, soliciting the co-operation of the army, particularly during the 2011 general elections.

The President-General of Uvwie General Improvement Union, UGIU, Chief Tuesday Onoge commended the various security agencies for protecting lives and properties in the area.

He described the relationship between the army and Uvwie people as unprecedentedly cordial.

Chief Onoge assured that the Commanding Officer will experience the hospitality of Uvwie through the visit and noted that the visit was the first of its kind since the existence of an army barracks at Uvwie.

Responding, Lt. Col. Jega who disclosed that his father was the Emir of Gwandu Emirate of Kebbi State and Chancellor of the New Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FURRE), Delta State, and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him.

The visiting Commanding Officer of Army Barracks Effurun, however, promised that he would render whatever assistance that was within his power during the elections and at other times.
