World Cup: Chukwu drums support for Lagerback
Following the 44-man list released by Super Eagles coach Lars Lagerback ahead the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, former Rangers Technical Adviser, Christian Chukwu has urged Nigerians to support his(Largerback) move in building a solid team before the competition in June .
Chukwu, a member and captain of the 1980 Nations Cup winning squad was reacting to insinuations that the list released by the Swede was a replica of the one released by former Super Eagles handler, Shaibu Amodu before the commencement of the Nations Cup.
The former Harambee stars of Kenya coach said it is rather too early to start condemning Lagerback’s 44-man list which included six home-based players. According to him, Lagerback knows what he wants before inviting the players he listed, advising that rather than criticising his list, Nigerians should support him so that he can concentrate on his
job.
“I think we should leave him to concentrate on his job. He was mandated by the NFA to get to a semi-final ticket. What he needs from us is sufficient support from the NFA and Nigerians to prepare the team.
The issue that his list is a replica of what Amodu displayed before the Nations should not be discussed especially after touring round Europe for young talents.
He is the boss and should know the players who fit into his World Cup plan. Rather than criticising and condemning his list, we should give him support,†Chukwu stressed.
