The orgainsers of the Naija Fan Village to be based in the city of Durban, during the World Cup in South Africa have been promised the best of Nigerian hospitality.
Speaking in Lagos last weekÂ during a public presentation of the Naija Fan Village project, the Managing Director, Premium Sports Management Services (PSMS),Ms Nkechi Obi said that one of the objectives behind the conception of the Naija Fan Village was to use the centre to project a positive image of Nigeria to the world.
â€œNaija Fan Village is designed to maximize the experience of the World Cup for both the average Nigerian and international football fan, and also serve as an opportunity to project a positive image of Nigeria to one of the most travelled persons in the world â€“ the average football fan,â€ she said.
In addition, she said, the centre was also designed to offer traveling Nigerian fans a pocket_friendly and decent accommodation while in South Africa.
On the choice of Durban as the location of the village, she said it was picked because of its warm climate, being the warmest place in South Africa during the countryâ€™s winter season, with temperatures of over 20 degrees, just like what is obtainable here in Nigeria.
Obi, a well_known football commentatorÂ said the centre has been equipped with excellent facilities to give the Nigerian fans a feel of a home_away_from_home at the World Cup. The facilities, she disclosed, include first class lodging accommodation with about 3,500 beds, halls, cafeteria and several kitchens providing both continental and Nigerian dishes.
Other facilities at the centre include a swimming pool, gymnasium, a 5,000 capacity outdoor viewing centre, with screens to cater for VIPs, fan Club members and general visitors; mini shopping complex, merchandise stands, exhibition stands, match ticket terminals, church and mosque.
The centre, she further revealed, is equipped with ATM machines, wireless Internet cafÃ© made up of 80 Computers, a 24_hour tuck shop with phone cards and accessories, and individual Chubb safes for securing important documents, among other facilities.
While assuring of excellent services, she said theÂ fan village staff has been trained to offer services that will rival that of any five star hotels, among these include a 24 hour transport services to and from places like the Durban Beach Front and Durban International Airport, 24 hour security in and around the village, 24 hour access to the reception area, 24 hour medical assistance in case of emergencies, and laundry services.
