KANO – Former Defense Minister andÂ former governor of Kano StateÂ Dr. Rabiâ€™u Musa Kwankwaso escaped mob action at theÂ Emir’sÂ palaceÂ in Kano during theÂ funeral ritesÂ ofÂ his arch political rival , AlhajiÂ Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi who died of cardiac arrest,Â Sunday.
The incident occurred at the Emir ‘s palaceÂ where thousands ofÂ residentsÂ throng the palace , venue of theÂ funeral prayersÂ for theÂ former governor. It was gathered that some youths suspected to be supporters ofÂ the lateÂ politician charged at Rabiu Kwankwaso saying â€œBamayi, Baza kabi sallar baâ€ meaning we are not with, you will notÂ be allowed to pray with us.”
The situation would have degenerated but for the intervention of theÂ palace guardsÂ who rescued the former Defense minister from the rampaging youths.
Some people who spokeÂ with VanguardÂ expressed dismayÂ at the behaviour of the youthsÂ , saying that theÂ former minister’s attendance was to pay his last respect to the late politicianÂ asÂ dictated by the tenets of Islam and should not be misconstrued for politics.
â€œKwankwaso being a muslim has every right to attend any muslimâ€™s funeral prayers ,Â Rimiâ€™s own particularly, despite theirÂ politicalÂ differences thusÂ describing theÂ youths’ action as borne out ofÂ ignorance , unfortunate andÂ showed a high level of illiteracy
