The Lagos State government will soon commence electronic approval system for prospective investors who want to secure approval on landed property before embarking on physical development in the state.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Francisco Abosede, who disclosed this in Lagos, said that the Planning Information Centre established by the government had started training people to drive the e_approval system that would soon be open to the public.
Abosede said that as soon as the Geographical Information System (GIS) being developed by the state government is completed, the e_approval system would commence in earnest, remarking that the system will eliminate the delay experienced by people seeking approval in the state.
The commissioner said the state had created Building Control Authority by an executive order to regulate quality of buildings, while awaiting the passage of the bill, adding that the state government had acquired land of the 74 buildings that collapsed in the state.
He said out of a total of 3,400 building permit applications received during the period, a total of 1,791 had been processed and approved while a total of 1,766 are still being processed for approval, noting that the processing is hampered by reasons such as no title documents, EIA report, tax clearance among others.
Abosede noted that the ministry also facilitated the establishment of stage certification department for monitoring the development permit approval implementation; compulsory insurance of buildings under construction to commence with the passage of the bill on town planning; inventory and non destructive test for distressed buildings; removal of illegal structures in the state and regular public enlightenment through publications.
