KANO — The police have arrested 57 suspects in connection with the robbery attack on former Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, which eventually led to his death.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Gana told the visiting Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr Uba Ringim, that most of the accused persons have been identified.
According to him, “a total number of 57 suspects have been nabbed in connection with the robbery incident that led to the death of the Kano-born politician, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Rimi, while several of them have been identified in an identification parade.”
Nigeria was thrown into mourning 4 April following the shocking death of the former civilian Governor of Kano State who developed strange illness and died at a hospital after he was attacked by robbers between Gada Jana and Darki along Bauchi federal highway.
DIG Gana explained that other suspects were undergoing interrogation to ascertain the level of their involvement in the crime, stressing that the police will soon get to the root of the matter.
The Kano Commissioner of Police revealed that despite this isolated incident, crime rate in the state had gone down between the February and April, pointing out that the Kano Command had been working tirelessly to frustrate criminal elements from perfecting their activities.
Gana assured of the preparedness of the command to unravel and bring to justice all those involved in the robbery incident, and urged the public to exercise patience.
