A TOTAL of 18 suspected members of separate robbery gangs that have been terrorising Lagos metropolis have been arrested by the police and six locally made guns, house breaking implements and a vehicle that was earlier stolen were recovered.
A breakdown of the arrest showed that seven suspected members of a notorious gang were arrested Monday night around Yaba area. The suspects were said to have snatched a Honda Accord car with number plate EM 478 EKY from their victim at about 10 p.m .
But unfortunately for them, a team of anti-robbery policemen from Yaba division said to have responded to a distress call, gave the robbers, some of whom were on a motorcycle, a hot chase down to Orile.
When it became apparent that the police were closing in on them, they reportedly abandoned the stolen vehicle and jumped into a waiting commercial Hilux bus, which tyres were, however, deflated by a bullet from the policemen.
The suspects, including driver of the Hilux bus with number plate XS 479 EKY, according to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Frnak Mba, were arrested.
A locally made double barrel gun and four cartridges, he said, were recovered from them.
Elsewhere at Ipaja area of the state same day, anti-robbery police team said to be responding to a distress call at Abesan Housing Estate, arrested another two suspected members of a robbery gang.
