BENIN—Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said he received with shock and disbelief the news of the death of former governor of old Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, who was reported to have died shortly after an armed robbery attack on Sunday night.
The governor, in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media) Mr. Tony Iyare, said: “Our hearts are heavy with grief to hear the shocking news of the death of one of the most prominent and flamboyant politicians that made the defunct Second Republic tick.
“It is to his eternal glory that Rimi never shied away from joining issues on critical national discourses and always spoke with forthrightness and candour. We shall miss his rich, robust, divergent and lively intervention to national debates. We shall miss the candour of a man not given to expressing his views only according to the blur of the moment.
“Even after his travails with the traditional institution as governor in the early ’80s which provoked a riot that eventually led to the death of his Political Adviser, Dr Bala Mohammed,Rimi became governor on the ticket of the People’s Republican Party, PRP.”
