In a bid to prepare more unemployed youths for self employment, the National Directorate of Employment, NDE, and the Nigeria Employers Consultative Association, NECA, have set up a four-member committee to explore and initiate the development of skill training centres to facilitate job creation.
The Committee which is to hold its maiden meeting in Abuja is expected to explore options on development of skills for unemployed youths and come up with strategies to ensure a collaborative implementation by both NDE and NECA.
This was one of the decisions taken at meeting of the Director-General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed and his NECA counterpart, Mr. Segun Oshinowo, in Lagos.
Mohammed was in Lagos as part of his nationwide dialogue with the organised private sector on ways to train unemployed youths in vocational skills and put them to gainful employment after skills acquisition.
He told the NECA boss that the Directorate would consult with other stakeholders to explore the possibility of establishing centres for training of unskilled jobless youths in construction industry similar to a model in Turkey.
In his remarks, NECA Director-General, Mr. Oshinowo, commended Mallam Mohammed for the passion he had brought to bear on the issue of job creation.
