The city of Lagos will showcase its new status of a mega city as it plays host to the first West Africa Corporate Games billed to commence on October 28 through 31, 2010.
According to the organisers, the games in Lagos will feature the cream of Nigerian and West African corporate organisations involving both private and public organisations, including government miniseries and parastatals. During the week, Sola Ojewusi of the West Africa Corporate Games, told journalists in Lagos that the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola and the the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, had given their blessings to stage the games.
which will witness the biggest gathering of corporate bodies and organisations from the sub region and other interests from Europe and Asia.
He stated that the week-long event will not just feature sports, it will also showcase the cultural and tourism potentials inherent in Lagos and Nigeria in general.
â€œThe games have been held world wide and this year, it is coming for the first time to West Africa. It could be likened to an Olympic games for corporate organisations where sports, business and tourism will interplay.â€
According to the organisers, thirteen sports will be in contention. These include soccer(5 â€˜aâ€™ side), beach soccer, volleyball, billiards and snooker, chess, athletics, squash, basketball among others.
The opening ceremony will be hold at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Surulere while Ikoyi Club 1938, Lagos Lawn Tennis club and Eko Hotel will host most of the indoor games, functions and exhibitions.
