KANO â€” Kano State Government has renamed the state television station, CTV44, after the first civilian Governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Television, ARTV, in recognition of his immense contributions to the state.
Briefing journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting in Kano, spokesman of the government and the state Commissioner for Information, Haruna Isa Dederi, stated that the Council has directed the management of the station to change its logo and other documents to reflect the new change immediately.
Dederi said that untilÂ his death, Abubakar Rimi was involved in philanthropy projects in his country home Sumaila.
Abubakar Rimi, the Kano-born politician, died of cardiac arrest after an encounter with armed bandits along Gadar Jana-Darki axis of Kano-Bauchi Federal Highway 4 April, while police has taken into custody 57 suspects in respect of the case.
The Commissioner for Information further disclosed that the Council has re-affirmed its commitments towards the completion of all the on-going projects in the state, adding that 2010 budget is centred on the completion of the projects.
He said in order to achieve that, the Council has takenÂ stock of all the projects.
