CALABARâ€”Acting President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has expressed hope that the researches being carried out at the University of Calabar will not only be of benefit to Nigeria but the whole of Africa.
He spoke at the joint 24th and 25th Convocation Ceremony of the University of Calabar which held weekend in Cross River State.
The acting president, who was represented by the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, said:Â Â â€œI take this opportunity to congratulate you for winning the Step B Centre of Excellence award for Infectious Diseases in the South-South zone, while still remembering that at the last convocation, you reported about your being a centre of excellence for fisheries and aquaculture.â€
The vice president said he hoped â€œthese will help in the training of our students, and researches carried out in these centres and improve the quality of life of not only Nigerians, but of all Africans. “The Analytical Laboratory Block of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry that has been donated by Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, is expected to project you into cutting-edge scientific research in Science.”
