ilorin — Fears that the renovations and rehabilitations of Ilorin Central Mosque had been abandoned were allayed at the weekend as the Chairman, Central Working Committee, Alhaji Sheu Gafar, explained that the project was being delayed to ensure that quality materials were used.
Alhaji Gafar noted that the clarification became imperative to disabuse the minds of the public following speculations that the project had been cancelled because construction works have stopped.
Speaking at the signing of a N1.2 billion contractual agreement between the Board of Trustees and a construction company, Charvet Nigeria Limited, Gafar promised agitating minds that the project would be completed in 10 months.
He explained that the review of the original master plan was necessary due to the occurrence of unforeseen exigencies noting that the local government council around the premises of the mosque would be demolished and relocated.
Gafar also said there had been an improvement on the N825 million earlier realised, representing 55 percent as at the last returns made by the contracted banks.
“We cannot claim to have an advantage of size and diversity on one hand and then go narrow-minded when the best of us is required. We cannot bring out the most crass or lowliest consideration when the loftiest is required,” the source said.
