UMUAHIA—A PEOPLES Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Abia State, Mr. Chime Asonye, has said if given the opportunity to serve, his major mandate will be to resurrect the God’s own state and make it work again.
Chief Asonye, a 2007 senatorial aspirant, said this in Umuahia, while officially declaring his intention to contest the governorship election on the PDP ticket. He lamented that the state was in dire need of a visionary and people-oriented political messiah, who would deliver the “once pacesetter state from the brink of collapse and economic stagnation.â€
According him, “my intention to run for the governorship election is informed by the state of despair of my dear state. Abia State in summary is a dead state. Some people say Abia is God’s own state that God has forgotten.
We need to come together to recognize that we have failed collectively and my mission is to make Abia work again. Everybody knows that we have problem from security to infrastructural development, human capacity building to lack of conducive environment for business.â€
He assured that if given the mandate, his administration would as a matter of priority, address the issue of insecurity and provide infrastructural development, adding that the state has financial capacity to make it truly number one state.
“I will bring the best security experts in the world to secure lives and property. I will ensure that workers are paid on time and that we have genuine free education. Abia gets more money than Ebonyi State. It gets more money than Enugu State, and I see what is happening in all these states.
We need to weep for Abia. I am one person that does not have faction. I am neutral, and I am better poised to bring the party together to move it forward.
The party realizing our mistake in the past knows that the only option it has is to have a consensus candidate, who can bring it together to liberate Abia people.
“I am very exposed. I have the audience, the means and capacity to run the election. I have the capacity to raise funds both in Nigeria and abroadâ€, he added.
