I’ll repay Lagerback with goals – Obasi

Nigerian and Hoffenheim striker, Chinedu Ogbuke  Obasi has expressed his readiness to work with coach Lars Lagerback when the Super Eagles assemble for the pre-World Cup meeting and training camp on April 27 and 28 in England.

Reacting to Lagerback’s rollout of the 44-man list for the camp session in the United Kingdom, Obasi, who had a decent showing at the last Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, said that he was happy to be deemed fit for national service.

“I am quite happy to be called to be part of the training camp because the battle for a place at the World Cup is an honour due to any player worth his salt. I am just looking forward to working with the coach and I promise to do my best, as an act of repaying the faith he has in me.

“This invitation also affords me the chance to team-up with my national teammates because it is always a good feeling having to play and share the same facilities with these players. It feels good being back with the players and it is going to be an interesting time for us all”, added Ogbuke, whose German side are battling hard to stave off relegation from the Bundesliga.

Only at the weekend, Ogbuke’s side  only managed to play a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund at Signal-Iduma Park.

Yet to score for his club in recent times, the Olympic’s silver-medalist winner at the Beijing, saw 63 minutes of playing time, before being replaced by Vedad Ibisevic.

Hoffenheim sit dangerously six points above the drop zone and need to avoid defeats to maintain their Bundesliga status, which has not been helped this term by the Nigerian, whose goals are yet to come.
And with the World Cup approaching quickly, Ogbuke needs to find his scoring boots if he is to book the Eagles flight to South Africa 2010.
