Ezeife’s wife’s abductors demand high ransom

By Vincent Ujumadu

AWKA—FORMER Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, whose wife, Onyedi, was kidnapped last week has said that the kidnappers were demanding ransom he could not afford. He, however, didn’t disclose the amount demanded by the kidnappers.

The kidnappers who abducted Mrs. Onyedi Ezeife, one of the wives of first civilian Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife are yet to release her, five days after her abduction.

“They are playing though. They are pushing me to go borrow money to pay them, which is a difficult thing for me to do. Considering my contributions to this state and Nigeria in general, I do not deserve this type of treatment from anybody in this state and country at large. Even if I pay them one kobo, is it worth it?” he asked.

According to the former Governor, “when they first called, they told me that they will kill her if I don’t get the money as soon as possible, but I wonder where they want me to get the money from. Do they think that I am as rich as they think?” said Ezeife.

He said that he would not even want the police to start harassing them (kidnappers)  to avoid them killing his wife, adding that “rather they should be left alone so that when they come back to their right senses and realize that I don’t have money, they will release her.” The hoodlums had on Wednesday last week, stormed Nkwo market, Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, where they abducted Ezeife’s wife. They had earlier killed four policemen at different locations in Anambra as they were escaping from an operation in Imo State.
