A positive attitude, strong passion for people, updated skills and business knowledge have been identified as the key prerequisites for HR executives who are desirous of achieving success in the profession.
According to the Managing Director, Inscape Partners International, Denmark, Mr. Hans Jakob Walhovd, these attributes are very important in view of the changing business environment of the 21st century.
Walhovd, who delivered a keynote paper titled: “Rethinking Your People Management Practices by Understanding Personality Types†at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) HR Strategy Roundtable held recently in Lagos, noted that HR personnel need to show more interest and commitment to the business side of their organisations.
Since profit making is the bedrock of all business organisations, he urged them to acquire basic knowledge in business administration in order to contribute meaningfully to the task of improving the bottom line.
“I believe that HR executives are important to the growth and success of any business establishment. Recruiting the right staff, training and assessment are some of their key functions.
But beyond that, I know that for them to be relevant in the current dispensation, they need to also show keen interest in the business side of their organisations. The number one priority of any business concern is profit and they should be ready to contribute their own quota, no matter how little, to achieving this,†he said.
