Benue Police dismiss two for theft

By PETER DURU
The Benue state Police command has sacked two brothers, Corporal Yakubu Mohammed and Constable Yahaya Mohammed serving with the command for criminal theft and receiving stolen properties.

Vanguard gathered from Police sources that the two dismissed officers who have already been charged to court for the offences along with Abraham Patrick Omotolo and Ndubisi Akukwe were in the act of stealing motorcycles and selling them.

According to our source, Abraham Omotolo was said to have ran out of luck when in December 2009, he was caught trying to steal a blue Jincheng motorcycle with registration number UF 778 Mkd. An angry mob had attempted to lynch him but the Police quickly came to his rescue and arrested him.

When interrogated, Abraham confessed being in the business of stealing motorcycles along with ex-corporal Yakubu Mohammed and Constable Yahaya Mohammed both formerly serving with ‘B’ Division, Makurdi.

He also confessed to have stolen a Jincheng motorcycle sometime ago which Yahaya Mohammed sold but adamantly refused to give him his share.

Abraham pleaded guilty to the charge against him before the Chief Magistrate Court 6 while the other three suspects denied the allegations.

The Presiding magistrate Mrs. J. Mozeh handed a nine month imprisonment on Abraham without an option of fine, admitted the other suspects on bail and adjourned the case to 23rd April 2010 for further hearing.
