Beke blasts NFA over Amokachi’s appointment

By Philips Adefioye
The inability of the second string Super Eagles to qualify for the second edition of the African Nations Championship,(CHAN) slated for Sudan next year is the result of poor coach selection by  the Nigeria Football Association, NFA..

Former Bayelsa United Football Club of Yenegoa Chairman, Felix Beke, who made this assertion stated that the appointment of Daniel Amokachi as the head coach for the Home-based Super Eagles at the expense of coaches like Fatai Amoo, Kadiri Ikhana, Okey Emordi and others who are handling top clubs in the country,  was a wrong decision.

Beke, an ex International, hinted that  Amokachi needs to understudy some top Nigerian coaches in the league, pointing out that Enyimba Football Club of Aba could have beaten the  Menas of Niger Republic who eliminated Amokachi’s wards.

“To be frank, Daniel Amokachi is not worthy to be a national team coach.  Being a successful player does not mean you can be a good coach. We have many coaches here in this country that could perform better than Amokachi who in the first place criticised  the local league, claiming it had no player worthy of a national team call up.

“How could somebody who has no idea of our local league  be given such a  national assignment to handle. Amokachi and the NFA just invited their friends to the team, leaving good players behind because of their personal interest,” he alleged.
He urged the NFA to stop the use quota system in selecting coaches and  players to national teams as it has affected the country’s  football negatively, adding that if they fail to heed the advice, it will further sink the country’s football.

“NFA should stop the use quota system in selecting coaches and  players to the national teams because it will continue to damage the country’s football. Let us stop this tribalism, the NFA has used tribalism to destroy our football, let us put this quota system aside because it ruins our football, we are not forging ahead.

“If all the technical crew are all from the same tribe, there is nothing bad in that as far as they are giving good result. Amokachi should have been sent away with Amodu.  Why did the NFA stop Amodu from working with Lagerback and later asked Amokachi to work with him.

That is unfair to someone who qualified the country for the Nations Cup and World Cup and even surpassed the target he was given at the Nations Cup in Angola,” the ex Bayelsa FC stressed.
