Minna — Nineteen people, including two National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members have been reported dead along Tegina-Lagos highway in Niger State as a result of a road accident.
Several others were also reported to have been injured in the accident.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that the accident occurred when two 18-seater buses had a head-on collision while trying to avoid potholes on the busy road Tuesday evening.
The eyewitness told our correspondent that the two vehicles, which were on top speed, completely left their lanes while trying to avoid the potholes, but lost control while trying to get back to their lanes.
Nineteen of the passengers from the two vehicles died on the spot while no fewer than 25 others were rushed to Kontagora and Kagara General hospitals for treatment.
Niger State Police Command spokesman, Asp Richard Oguche, who confirmed the incidence said it could not be ascertained whether those who were rushed to the hospitals as a result of serious injuries survived or not.
However, it was confirmed that among those who died were two NYSC members.
It could not, however, be immediately confirmed where they were serving or their destinations.
The Police Command has, therefore, called on the public whose relatives traveled and yet to be seen to call at either Kontagora or Kagara General hospitals in search of their loved ones.
