UMUAHIAâ€”A leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State,Â Chief Chime Asonye has joined the race for the governorship seat of the state, with a formal declaration to hold on 10 April 2010, at Old Umuahia ward of PDP.
Asonye, a management consultant, according to hisÂ campaign organisation, said that the event will be witnessed by prominent politicians, particularly PDP chieftains from within and outside Abia State,Â where he would unfold his blueprint for the social and economic transformation of the state.
â€œA democrat and a strong believer in the principles of law, he has been in theÂ vanguard of PDPâ€™s policies and programmes, and a pillar of support for the partyâ€™s programmes in Abia State, and a major financier of the partyâ€™s activities at the national, state, local government and ward levels.â€
The statement further said,Â â€œin October 2006, he donated 25 motorcycles with strong financial backingÂ to the 17 council chapters of the party in Abia to mobilize for the 2006 election for PDP candidates at all levels.”
