Everton and Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe has urged coach Lars Lagerback to select players who are fit and have been playing regular football for their clubs, when he makes his final selection for South Africa 2010 World Cup.
Anichebe who did not feature in the Eagles qualification campaign and the Angola 2010 Nations Cup due to injury, stated that players like him will have a chance of playing at the World Cup, if Lagerback used the criteria to select his final 23.
“Obviously the manager needs to look at everyone and see who’s fit, who’s played a lot of games, who’s in good form. We’ll see at the end of the season.
“ I didn’t participate in any of the qualifiers. But it will be a great feeling to be at the World Cup,†said Anichebe who has played two times for Nigeria at the senior level.
He played a major role for Under-23 team that won silver at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, under coach Samson Siasia.
Anichebe who returned from injury at the second part of this season has put up some good performances for Everton. He scored a goal against Birmingham, he is claiming an own goal against Fulham and he made an assist against Blackburn.
The 22 year-old Anichebe will fight for a shirt along other strikers like, Obafemi Martins, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Peter Utaka, John Utaka and others, but according to him, he stands a chance of being in the team.
“We’ve got great players such as Yak, Obafemi Martins, but we’ll see what happens,†he said
