Agbarho queen robbed of N.6m at gunpoint

By Emma Amaize

WARRI—HER Royal Majesty (HRM), Queen Christiana Ebelle of Agbarha kingdom in Ughelli North local government area of Delta State, was last Tuesday robbed of N600,000 at gunpoint by bandits near Asaba.

Vanguard learnt that the incident occurred between 10.00 am and 11.00 am on the fateful day after the bus in which Queen Ebelle and other passengers were travelling to Onitsha, Anambra State, broke down, near Asaba.

The queen, who spoke to Vanguard on the robbery, said:   “The bus I was travelling in with others broke down along Ughelli-Asaba road, close to Asaba. I deal in foreign hot drinks and I was going to Onitsha to buy drinks and stock my shop for the Easter.

“The driver pleaded with us to enter another vehicle to Onitsha, while he repaired his vehicle.

“We saw this vehicle coming, we were the ones that flagged it down.  One other passenger and I entered. There was a woman in front and two men behind. We had not gone far when they said they wanted to go to toilet and the driver veered into a side corner of the road.

“Before we knew it, they brought out guns, shot menacingly into the air and told me to bring out the money with me or they would kill me. I can only talk about myself. I don’t know what happened to the other man.

“They collected my personal N400, 000 with which I was going to buy things and another N200, 000 I was given to buy things for somebody else.”

Queen Ebelle, who was downcast when she spoke to Vanguard, said she could not recall the registration number of the vehicle, calling on Delta State government to come to her aid.

Investigations revealed that those who robbed the queen were 419 fraudsters who frightened the daylight out of her with gun when they succeeded in diverting from Ughelli-Asaba road to a bush path and collected her money forcefully instead of the usual brainwashing.
