UGHELLI — THREE persons have been arrested by the Police for their alleged involvement in the assassination of a 54-year-old man in Amekpa Street, Ughelli, Delta State, as fresh facts, yesterday, emerged on the circumstances surrounding his death.
A family source told Vanguard that the deceased, identified as Anthony Obuiwevbi, was not killed by ritualists, adding that autopsy had been carried out on the corpse.
The source noted that the heart or any vital organ of the deceased was not removed to suggest that suspected ritualists killed him. The source, who did not want his name in print, said they suspected that those he was having a land dispute with murdered him.
He lamented that the deceased was stabbed and also had severe injuries on his head.
The source said three persons had been arrested and were being interrogated by the police at Agbarha-Otor and said the family was determined to pursue the matter to a logical conclusion.
He reiterated that the corpse had been deposited at Ughelli Central Hospital mortuary.
Effort made to reach the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ughelli ‘B’ Division, Agbarha-Otor, for comment on the incidence proved abortive at press time.
However, a senior police officer attached to the Division confirmed the incident.
The police officer, who did not want his name in print, said the suspected assassins allegedly killed the man after cutting down the burglary proof to his (deceased) apartment.
He confirmed that three persons have been arrested by the police for questioning, adding that the police would unravel the circumstances leading to the death of the man.
