ERSTWHILE Secretary of the Nigeria Football Association, Alhaji Sani Ahmed Toro, has accused the Sani Lulu-led board of the FA of seeking personal glory over Nigeria’s interest.
Toro, a former Sports Commissioner in Bauchi State and member of the House of Representatives, said that the present FA members are self-centred and cared little about Nigeria’s good outing in the World Cup in South Africa.
Toro was livid that at a time that the World Cup was knocking on the doors, Lulu and his fellow board members were junketing round Nigeria canvassing for a second term in office.
“Which is more important? Getting a second term in office and Nigeria not doing well at the World Cup? I think it is bizarre. Getting a second term will come when people look at what you achieved during the first
tenure. I believe that concentrating on the World Cup and other football matters is more important that self glorificationâ€, Toro said on our hotline yesterday. He wondered while the FA members would be panicking and begging for votes if indeed they have done well for Nigerian football.
FA spokesman had informed that the entire North East geopolitical zone of the country on Friday, unanimously endorsed NFA President Sani Lulu, 1st Vice, Amanze Uchegbulam and Taiwo Ogunjobi for a second term on the board of the NFF.
At a meeting in Gombe Town, attended by FA chairmen and secretaries from host Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Bauchi and Yobe states, all the stakeholders expressed satisfaction with performance of present board and assured Lulu and others of re-election.
This followed earlier unanimous endorsements by North West and South Eastern zones. Also present at Gombe meeting were Lulu, Uchegbulam, Ogunjobi, Ojo-Oba and some NFF management staff.
