AKURE-AT least 22 persons were Tuesday roasted in an auto crash along Amurin-Owo near Emure, Ondo State. However, three other passengers sustained serious injuries in the crash which occurred at about 1.30am.
Vanguard gathered that the crash involving a Toyota Hiace Bus marked Kogi XA 666 KHS and an Izuzu Mini truck marked Lagos CV 624 KT happened when the driver of the truck was trying to avoid a pothole and ended up having a head-on collision with the on-coming bus.
The two vehicles were burnt beyond recognition when Vanguard visited the scene yesterday as a result of the impact of the collision
It was learnt that the truck was conveying aluminum rods from Lagos to Abuja while the commercial bus was coming from Abuja and heading to Lagos.
A team of Policemen from the â€˜Bâ€™ Division of the state Police Command in Owo and the officials of the FRSC in the state led the rescue operation
They were seen removing the charred remains of the victims from the two vehicles.
The bodies were piled on one another beside the road when Vanguard visited the seen after which they were eventually evacuated to an unknown place for mass burial.
It was learnt that the three survivours were later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for medical attention.
Yesterdayâ€™s rescue operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer of â€˜Bâ€™ Division, Owo, Mr. Garba Umaru and the FRSC Unit Commander, Owo, Mr. Segun Sanmi.
Speaking with newsmen, the state Command Image Maker Aremu Adeniran who described the crash as unfortunate confirmed the casualty figure.
An Official of the FRSC told Vanguard that the casualty figure would have been less if the accident had not occurred very early yesterday.
