 MAKURDI — As the date for 2011 general elections in the country draws closer, over 764 local and international political groups and associations have drummed up support for Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, promising to mobilise support for his candidature at the next gubernatorial election in the state.
This hint was dropped bySpecial Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Dr. Cletus Tyokyaa, while declaring open a pre-launch media briefing of the Vote In Suswam Again, VISA, group in Makurdi.
Tyokyaa said vociferous campaigns of the various groups who were insisting that Governor Gabriel Suswam contest the next gubernatorial elections in the state were indication that the PDP-led administration in Benue State was in tune with the aspirations of the people.
According to him, the present administration in the state mounted the saddle of leadership some three years ago with a clear mission to impact positively on the lives of the people.
He said having kept to his own side of the bargain of the social contract he entered with the people of the state by provision of tangible dividends of democracy, Governor Suswam had become the toast of the people irrespective of party lines who now liken his administration to that of late Ape Aku, the Second Republic Governor who is generally referred to as the father of modern Benue.
The Adviser urged the all support groups canvassing the re-election of Governor Suswam to go about the exercise peacefully.
Earlier in his remarks, International Coordinator of the Benue VISA group, Mr. Frank Utoo, said the group was championing the re-election of Governor Suswam in view if the out-standing accomplishments of the administration in the last three years.
He said the governor had exemplified himself as a youth who was out to change the face of Benue in line with modern trends across the globe.
